chaine adn - visuel présentationThe CENTAURE foundation is a network of excellence in the world regarding Transplantation Sciences.

Established on June 15, 2007 by a French decree, the CENTAURE foundation benefits from the Réseau thématique de Recherche et de Soins (RTRS) status. The goal of the foundation is « in addition to the help of the best French units, to promote the best scientific places in France, which are world-recognized ». The RTRS – established by the research program law of April 18, 2006 – aims at “gathering around a research unit hardcore, a large number of top researchers, brought together and sharing the same strategy for a common scientific aim”.

Thus, standing by its commitment, the CENTAURE Foundation is bringing together researchers, teachers and clinicians of 3 large centers of Nantes, Lyon and Paris, each of which have contributed significantly to innovation in the field of transplantation. The teams’ excellence no longer needs to be proven, for it is already recognized by numerous French and foreign distinctions and by its involvement in main national and international projects. In order to improve significantly their visibility and attraction at an international level, the teams of the CENTAURE network have created a strong and timeless partnership. The CENTAURE network is willing to stay at a national or even international leadership thanks to its size, its excellence; its research aims coherence and its ability to develop structured projects. [Scientific program of the foundation]. The CENTAURE network is also a vector for the transmission of new knowledge.

The transplantation of organs and tissues is the only therapeutic option for the treatment of end-stage diseases of vital organs and is the treatment of choice for end-stage renal failure. Today more than 275 000 Europeans live with a transplanted organ. Transplantation is at the origin of many historical achievements (awarded by several Nobel prizes) in the field of surgery and in basic sciences including immunology where the repercussions have largely exceeded the field of transplantation. Today, the development of transplantation is hampered by several major hurdles and overcoming these will be a challenge for the next decade (increase in demand for organs, the need to prevent loss of long-term graft function and so on). By bringing together the resources of 3 core centers around a common scientific program, the CENTAURE foundation allows France to benefit from a network whose visibility at both the European and international level will help make our country a leader in the fields of transplantation.
