Why support transplantation research ?
Transplantation: a major issue
The transplantation of organs and tissues is the only therapeutic option for the treatment of end-stage diseases and is the treatment of choice for end-stage renal failure. The clinical success of transplantation has had a huge impact and has widened its field of application: rapid development of simultaneous kidney and pancreas transplantation in diabetic patients with renal failure, pancreas transplantation alone in unstable diabetes, Islets of Langerhans transplantation and more recently the transplantation of composite tissue, such as the hand and face, and of embryonic cells (Parkinson’s and Huntington’s diseases). The “sciences of transplantation” provides more than ever before, expectation for developments likely to revolutionize medicine. The support of research, headed by worldwide recognized teams is vital.
A unique network of excellence in the world
The CENTAURE Foundation is a research network unique in the world regarding its dimension and its scientific potential. It brings together researchers, teachers and clinicians of 3 large centers of Nantes, Lyon and Paris (link to core centers) each of which have contributed significantly to innovation in the field of transplantation. The network currently carries out a major part of the transplantations in France (Paris and Nantes are the French leader centers for renal transplants; Nantes and Lyon are the European leaders for pancreas transplants). The founding centers of the network have developed internationally recognized innovative programs: the first transplants for deceased donors (1960), the use of the monoclonal antibody OKT3 (1982) at Necker, the pharmaceutical development of anti-lymphocyte serum, the first transplant of foetal tissue in children (1978), the first liver transplant in children form a living-related donor, the first composite tissue graft in humans in 1998 in Lyon, the first use of anti-IL-2R (1987) and anti-LFA1 or anti-CD4 in humans and transplantation without the use of corticoids in Nantes. In collaboration with the INRA, Nantes has obtained the first transgenic pigs specifically modified for neurone xenotransplantation (CTLA4-Ig). Moreover, five biotechnology companies committed to transplantation have been founded by the CENTAURE network teams.
The CENTAURE foundation believes, with its network strategy that it will help to make France, once again, the leader in the fields of transplantation. The funds raised by the Foundations are allocated by the Steering Committee and approved by the international Scientific Advisory Board. Selection criterion are based on scientific excellence of projects, based on hopes of medical achievements and based on the scientific qualities of researchers who are involved in projects. The foundation wants to promote excellence.
Accounting transparency for fund management
The CENTAURE foundation has set up control procedures which allow its partners and donators to be well informed of the use of their donations, especially with:
- Control from our external auditor
- Accounts are sent to all the donators and partners
- The auditor’s activity report is available on the website (www.fondation-centaure.org) and is approved by the Board of Directors.
How to support the CENTAURE Foundation ?
If you feel concerned by the values and by the actions of the Centaure foundation, your company can join the foundation by developing partnership actions. A convention can be set up and these partnerships can lead to a common communication between the company and the foundation.

Each year, the foundation carries out a program of actions and supports works and projects of research teams. You company can take part in the funding of one or several aims of the program. You will be assured to support top quality projects. The foundation’s commitment is to Keep you informed of the achievements of the team you are supporting.
Your company can also support one aim of the program of activities:
- Annual prize of the CENTAURE foundation
- Funding doc post-docs involved in the teams of the CENTAURE network,
- Funding the visit of famous foreign researchers for several months in France, according to a focused research project; and so on.
To help the communication actions of the Foundation
The visibility of the foundation, its beaming, its recognition can be highlighted by the communication strategy. You company can also help the foundation by talking about the foundation ambitions and actions on your website or inside the communication of your company.
Share your skills for research
Depending on your field of activity, you can put your skills at the service of the CENTAURE foundation and thus help the foundation in its communication actions, in its fundraising actions, in its events organization, and so on.
To get involved in an event
In the scope of its scientific actions, the foundation holds conferences and organizes thematic meetings open to worldwide researchers. Your company can help us by organizing these events of high scientific degree. In parallel, the foundation will organize events which goal is to increase its visibility and its ‘public image’. Your company can support the organization of these events: concert, sport contests, diners … whose profits will be dedicated to the foundation’s actions.
